Chris retired in 2014 as the Chamberlain of London - an ancient office dating back to 1237. However, in his modern role as the City Corporation’s Director of Finance, Chris was responsible for the finances of an organisation with a turnover of around £600 million per annuum, investment assets of over £4bn, operating across public, private and charitable sectors.
Chris’s career dates back to 1972 and he has worked in both the public and private sector, with his first appointment as a Chief Financial Officer at Somerset County Council in 1981. Chris has been a national Financial Advisor, President of the Society of County Treasurers and President of CIPFA from 2011 to 2012. In 2013 he was named as Chief Financial Officer of the Year.
Chris was previously an Advisor to the Scheme Advisory Board from its formation, a Member of the Advisory Board to the Public Sector Deposit Fund and an Advisor to London Councils on the formation of its Pensions Collective Investment Vehicle. He is now a NED and chairs its Investment Oversight Committee.
